The reawakening of the Apsaras
Angkor Wat is, and will always be, linked to dreams.
Contemplating this ancient city overwhelms those who see it by awakening emotions through the majesty and the glorious past of the place.
Beyond the temples, the stone bas-reliefs reveal an ancient history. These stone books are testimonials to a long gone era.
What fascinates me the most, are the heavenly nymphs, those women’s bodies made of stone that display a rare beauty with such subtle and delicate sensuality.
The Apsaras seem to be able to move on the walls of the temples; however, they are forever prisoners stranded in a gracious posture.
Looking at these Asparas, I could not stop imagining them alive, in our colorful world. So, I had to liberate them from their current state.
I gave them life through painting and immortalized them through a more lively representation.
I awakened them, so they could continue dancing, smiling, greeting us and seducing us.
