Nicolas Vignau-Bégué
Autodidact, I started painting 15 years ago, after I had been on a trip to Morocco. First, I used bright colors and large canvases to paint abstracts. Later, I focused on oil-canvas painting, exploring shades of blue only.
Following a wonderful meeting with Japanese Painter, Shigeyoshi Koyama in Cadaques, I gave up colors for black and white, which I have passionately embraced since.
This choice allowed me to produce quite a few works of art and to hold many exhibitions in Turkey for 5 years. They all revolved around the city of Istanbul and the singular atmosphere of this iconic metropolis.
After a long exploration of different mediums, I finally chose acrylics for its neat and precise outlining as well as for its quick drying. I actually produce my paintings in one sitting and I never touch them again!
I have been in Asia for 2 years and I continue to seek a balance between esthetics and emotions. Black and white guide me in the conception of these fine lines, that give a sensual and precise movement to these infinite curves that are provided by the paddy fields.
The latter are well known to everybody but I chose to solely evoke them.
I therefore invite you to travel through my controversial vision, lying somewhere between realism and abstraction, of these moving landscapes. They are bathed with light and are rich in shades at dusk as well as at dawn.
